Information Commons, University of Calgary: Providing Service through Collaboration and Integration

The Information Commons at the University of Calgary(http://librar y.ucalgary.ca/infocommons) is a 42,000 ft~2facility onthe 2nd floor of the main library building. It is an integrated ser-vice facility that provides both technical and library assistance. Inthis article, the author describes the main features of the planningprocess, the services and staffing, and highlights the collaborativepartnerships which have developed over time. The next steps for thecommons will be towards establishing new services, programs andpartnerships in the Learning Commons in the new Taylor FamilyDigital Library, set to open in 2010.
