N.H. utility scrubs Merrimack plant, burns wood to meet air standards

Public Service of New Hampshire's 50-MW wood-fired project operated at 80 percent capacity last year, but the utility also is in the process of scrubbing its Merrimack coal-fired power plant to comply with the state's clean air regulations, spokesman Martin Murray said on May 13. The Northern Wood Power Project in Portsmouth displaced burning about 150,000 short tons of coal, according to PSNH parent company, Northeast Utilities.
