The Fitch Ratings Agency issued a report last week with a mixed bag of news for coal producers. The agency said, "There is a risk low thermal coal prices may persist into 2013, changing the industry's supply side dynamics." Fitch noted that prices for 5,500 Kcal/kg coal out of Newcastle had fell to a two year low of $87.00/t earlier this month, and much lower than the $142.00/t FOB price set in January 2011.
