Imported coal an option: Southern Company issues RFP on long-term coal for Georgia Power's plants

Southern Company is soliciting bids on Georgia Power's long-term requirements for plants served by Norfolk Southern - Hammond, Wansley and Yates. In addition, bids for truck delivered coal for Hammond are being accepted. The deadline to submit offers is October 20. Bids will be evaluated using two proposal guidelines: 1) Three years beginning January 1, 2006: 2) A term of five-years beginning January 1, 2006. Under proposal guideline No. 1, Southern Company wants offers of up to 500,000 tons for delivery in 2006 and up to 2 million tons/year for shipment in 2007 and 2008.
