Norfolk Southern outbids CSX for White Mountain business

Norfolk Southern Railway lodged a last-minute bid allowing it to take a contract from CSX Transportation to transport almost all of ale coal to be produced by White Mountain Mining's operations in Raleigh County, W.Va. White Mountain, which is not producing coal right now, and has been in bankruptcy reorganization since June 2002, needs an immediate cash infusion to revive two deep mines on property formerly controlled by coal operator Paul Kizer. Those deep mines are in splits of the Pocahontas seam. The mine's metallurgical coal is being sold through American Metals & Coal International.
