Petroleum coke spot market prices are likely to skyrocket if the political turmoil in Venezuela continues, sources told Platts Coal Outlook last week. And, in some instances, coal prices will not necessarily determine petcoke's ceiling price. "It' a real shambles down there," one petcoke reseller said. While agreeing, an energy consultant added that he believes the petcoke situation will not become "material" until at least several weeks' worth of production have been lost.
