Hallador opens new mine, plans another in Illinois

Hallador Energy plans to begin shipping coal late this month or in early April from its new Ace-in-the-Hole surface mine in southern Indiana and could apply for a permit in about a year for a second underground mine in southern Illinois, company president Brent Bilsland said Monday. Ace-in-the-Hole, near Clay City in Clay County, will be operated by Hallador's Sunrise Coal subsidiary, currently the operator of the Carlisle underground steam coal mine in Sullivan County, Indiana.
