Intermetallic compounds are of interest as high temperature structural materials because they offer the advantages of a ceramic and also some of the beneficial mechanical characteristics of a metal. The intermetallic compound molybdenum disilicide (M0S12) has emerged as a material with excellent potential for high temperature structural applications [1], due to its high melting point (2030 °C), excellent high temperature oxidation resistance, and brittle-to-ductile transition in the range 900—1200 DC. How-ever, its use is restricted by poor ductility at low temperatures and relatively low strength at high temperatures [2].
