摘要

A continual increase in the use of polyethylene (PE) pipes for oil, gas and water distribution systems has gained increased attention and interest among engineers and technologists. Important driving forces dictating the selection and use of polyethylene piping systems are cost, manufacturability, corrosion resistance, durability and damage tolerance. Therefore, to ensure that the PE pipes are not only durable but also damage tolerant, it is desirable to understand the extrinsic and intrinsic factors which influence pipe durability and performance, while concurrently facilitating use of the knowledge gained to improve design and enhance manufacturing methods and standards.
