摘要

Most of the major efforts of the materials community in the field of ceramic materials over the last two decades have been concentrated on improvement of the mechanical performance of engineering ceramics using different approaches, such as minimizing the quantity of structural defects, controlling the process parameters and microstructure and finally adding high-strength, high-modulus reinforcing particles or fibres to low-strength, low-modulus matrices [1-4]. The main target among these studies is to improve the fracture toughness by whisker [5,6], platelet/paniculate [7-12] or fibre [13,14] reinforcement and produce a ceramic composite which is able to solve sophisticated engineering problems [15, 16].
