摘要

Following the first discovery of an icosahedral phase in Al-14 at% Mn alloy by rapid melt quenching [1], the preparation and characterization of the icosahedral phase has attracted rapidly increasing interest from the crystallographic and material science points of view. These icosahedral phases exhibit electron diffraction patterns consisting of sharp spots but with an icosahedral point group symmetry which is inconsistent with the translational symmetry of conventional crystals. Such structure has been explained by most researchers within the concept of a new form of solid state order termed "quasicrystalline" [2].
