Phase equilibria in the AI-Gd-Mg system in solid state

摘要

The Al-Gd-Mg system is interesting because it consists of two light, widely used metals and one rare-earth metal. In this system Al and Mg are well known as alloying additives to each other. On the other hand, Gd is shown to increase significantly the strength of Mg [1], and to improve the properties of some Al alloys [2]. There is information about phase equilibria in the Al-RE-Mg systems where RE is La, Ce, Pr, Nd, or Y [3-7], but any information concerning phase equilibria in the Al-Gd-Mg system is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the phase equilibria in the Al-Gd-Mg system in solid state.
