摘要

Fibre-dominated mechanical properties of unidirectional carbon fibre reinforced carbon (CFRC) composites measured in the fibre direction (tensile strength, flexural strength, or Young's modulus) are good while the matrix controlled ones (transverse or shear properties) are poor. Due to the inherent shear weakness of the carbon matrix [1] the measured shear strength or modulus can serve as a good guide to improvements of this material.
