Sierra Club sues dte for CAA violations at four coal plants

The Sierra Club is taking dead aim at DTE Energy, Michigan's largest electric utility, in a new federal lawsuit, ostensibly accusing the company of violating the Clean Air Act but ultimately seeking to encourage DTE to retire nearly 4,000 MW of aging coal-fired capacity. DTE, which relies on coal for roughly 80% of its 11,000 MW of capacity, said Wednesday it has no plans to shutter the four baseload plants - 1,200-MW Belle River, 1,200-MW St. Clair, 740-MW Trenton Channel and 700-MW River Rouge -- named in the suit filed Tuesday in US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
