Coal industry donates to flood victims

Ravaging flood waters this past summer were particularly destructive in some of the coal mining counties of West Virginia. While the environmental obstructionists garnered all the press space and air time they could blaming the coal mining industry, Bill Raney, President of the West Virginia Coal Association (WVCA) and his member companies quietly went about the business of doing something.Together, the WVCA members raised 500,000 dollars and donated it to the Red Cross for flood relief efforts in southern West Virginia. This was in addition to many donations made by coal industry officials to local relief efforts as well as supplying equipment and personnel in the hours immediately following the flood.
