Ovular callus culture studies in Carica papaya L.

A protocol was developed for initiation and regeneration of ovular callus of pawpaw (cultivars Pusa delicious, Pusa magestic, Sunrise solo, and GK PM-1, and Carica cauliflora). Callus was cultured on full-strength MS medium, half-strength MS medium + 0.5 lmg kinetin/litre, and full-strength MS medium + 0.5 mg kinetin/litre. The ovular callus formation was observed in Pusa delicious x Carica cauliflora at 35 days of age after 2 months of inoculation. Among the culture media, shootlets were observed in half-strength MS medium supplemented with kinetin.
