Effect of integrated weed management on yield and economics of soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill).

The effects of weed control treatments (hand weeding at 15 and 30 days after sowing or DAS, hand weeding at 15 DAS and hoeing at 30 DAS, hoeing at 15 and 30 DAS, 0.075 kg imazethapyr/ha applied at 15 DAS with or without hoeing at 30 DAS, 0.009 kg chlorimuron ethyl applied at 15 DAS with or without hoeing at 30 DAS, and 0.05 kg quizalofop ethyl/ha applied at 15 DAS with or without hoeing at 30 DAS) on the performance of soyabean were studied in Pune, Maharashtra, India, during the kharif of 2006. The number of pods, number of seeds, weight of seeds and 100-seed weight were superior under the weed-free control. Among the integrated weed control methods, the application of imazethapyr at 0.075 kg a.i./ha with hoeing at 30 DAS was superior with respect to seed yield. The highest gross income (41 822 rupees/ha), net monetary return (21 971.50 rupees/ha-1) and benefit:cost ratio (2.11) were recorded for the weed-free control, followed by hand weeding at 15 and 30 DAS (39 198 and 20 547 rupees/ha, respectively).
