A field experiment was conducted with Americal hybrid cotton (G. hirsutum cv. Sigma) during the kharif season of 2004 on Entisols in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. The treatments were: 100% recommended dose of NPK, i.e. 80:40:40 kg/ha (T1); 75% RDF, i.e. 60:30:30 kg/ha+farmyard manure (FYM) at 5 t/ha+2% urea foliar spray (T2); 75% RDF+FYM at 2.5 t/ha+2% urea foliar spray (T3); 75% RDF+FYM at 5 t/ha (T4); 75% RDF+FYM at 2.5 t/ha (T5), 50% RDF, i.e. 40:20:20 kg/ha+FYM at 5 t/ha+2% urea foliar spray (T6); 50% RDF+FYM at 2.5 t/ha+2% urea foliar spray (T7), 50% RDF+FYM at 5 t/ha (T8); 50% RDF+FYM at 2.5 t/ha. Total kappas yield (from 5 pickings) was influenced significantly by the different treatments. The highest kappas yield (42.72 q/ha) was found with T2, while the lowest kappas yield (27.76 q/ha) was recorded with T9. The highest net profit of Rs 70 467.16/ha was recorded with T2, which had 18.12% more profit over the control. It was followed by T1, producing net monetary returns of Rs 59 652.36/ha. The benefit:cost (B:C) ratio was maximum (4.29) with T2, while the minimum B:C ratio (2.98) was recorded with T9.
