A field experiment was conducted on a medium black soil in Marathwada, Pharbani, Maharashtra, India, in 2000, involving 6 treatment combinations of 3 transplanting dates, i.e. 46th meteorological week (MW) (12 November), 47th MW (19 November), 48th MW (26 November), 2 true potato seed (TPS) genotypes, namely HPS 1/13 (V1) and TPS C-3 (V2), and 2 seedling treatments: S1-foliar spray of urea at 0.1% and S2-foliar spray of urea at 0.2% at alternate day at 15 days after sowing (DAS) till transplanting on nursery beds. The emergence count and height of seedlings were significantly higher with crop sown during the 42nd week and was on par with the 41st week and superior over the 43rd week sowing. The optimum minimum temperature of 20+or-2 degrees C as recommended for TPS sowing by earlier research workers were found during the 41st and 42nd MW, which might have reflected in improving seedling vigour parameters. The beneficial effect of spraying 0.2% urea at 15 DAS was observed. The TPS genotype HPS-1/13 transplanted during the 46th MW and sprayed with 0.2% urea after 15 DAs on nursery beds resulted in significant increase in tuber yield in Marathwada region.
