Phase transformation criterion is the key to investigating the toughness of phase transformation ceramics. In this paper, the modified equivalent inclusion theory by the authors is employed to study the interaction between microcracking and transformation in ceramics. The transformation criterion is derived. The influence of microcracks and transformation particles on the critical transformation load is discussed. [References: 8]
