Changes of chemical composition, crystallization,and morphology of laser synthesized amorphous Si/C/Nnanocomposite powders during heat treatment under nitrogenand argon were investigated. The influence of nitrogen andargon on the chemical composition and crystallization of thepowders were different. When the temperature exceeded 1750℃,however, the amorphous Si/C/N nanocomposite powders weretransformed into pure crystalline β-SiC powders under eithernitrogen or argon. The particle sizes of the nanometric powdersincreased abruptly as increasing the annealing temperature andreached micrometer scale above 1750℃.
