摘要

A new spray forming technique has been developed to synthesise aluminium based metal matrix composites. In the present investigation, Al-2Mg-7TiO_2 composite was successfully spray atomised and co-deposited on a rotating substrate. This paper describes the processing methodology for the fabrication of Al-TiO_2 composites, which involves simultaneous introduction of aluminium melt and rutile particles through concentric tubes, followed by inert gas atomisation and deposition on a rotating copper substrate placed vertically below the atomiser at some predetermined height. Mechanical and physical properties of as-cast and mechanically worked composite materials are discussed. For comparison, Al-2Mg-5TiO_2 composite was also prepared by stir cast method and characterised.
