Research initiatives for the forging industry

The North American forging industry facesconsiderable challenges as the globalization of the economycontinues to increase. Competition to this industry comes fromtwo primary areas: competing processes and materials and thehighly competitive global industry. In order for the forgingindustry to remain viable and successful, there is a need for acomprehensive approach, through alliances, to suppon and addressthe research and development programs for reducing costs and leadtimes and increasing material utilization. Thispaper will discuss asmall number of the research initiatives and suggest themethodology to be used in establishing a collaborative alliance insupport of a broad research agenda.
