Colombian coking coal producers are thankful for any upturn in international pricing. However, the $172.00/tonne FOB secand quarter benchmark for premium quality hard coking coal isn't expected to offer much assistance to Colombian exporters. "We really need prices to go above the $200.00 (per tonne) mark," a Colombian coal official told Energy Publishing. "We're not going to see a real recovery until then. With average transportation costs of $40.00 to $50.00 (per tonne), Colombian coking coal isn't competitive."
