Never let it be said that North American met coal producers are willing to sit on the sidelines and let export opportunities pass them by. "1 think just about every met coal producer in the United States and Canada has announced plans to increase produc- tion," a U.S. coal official told Coal Americas. "If it can be dug out of the ground and sold at a profit, producers will do it. Australia continues to have infrastructure and weather problems. China, India, Japan and South Korea all need metallurgical coal and they are coming to coalfields in Canada and the United States seeking to make deals."
