International met coke market begins 2007 on a more even keel

After a short suspense about when exactly the Chinese government would release the first batch of met coke export licenses in 2007, it appears the international met coke market is on a more even keel than in past years. The long-term decline in met coke capacity in Europe and North America began skidding to a halt after 2002. While some new plant construction projects have not come to fruition, the U.S. and Europe are no longer in a position of losing met coke production capacity. In fact, since 2002, Europe has added 4.1 million tonnes of new production capacity.
