CONSOL to boost thermal coal exports, expand sales in the U.S.

CONSOL Energy will export more than 4.0 million short tons of thermal coal to power plants equipped with scrubber units in Europe this year, the company announced. The coal will be shipped through CONSOL's export terminal at the Port of Baltimore. However, in FY2008 a "conservative estimate" for thermal coal exports is 5.0 to 6.0 million short tons. Currently CONSOL exports coal to Denmark, England, France, Germany, Ireland and Portugal. . Closer to home, CONSOL signed agreements with U.S. utilities WE Energies and Santee Cooper to supply a total 9.3 million short tons of Northern Appalachian coal on a long-term basis.
