Colombian president unveils coal terminal project

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Velez unveiled plans to construct a 300 million US dollars coal terminal at Santa Marta. Construction on the project is expected to take four years. The coal terminal will enlist special measures to limit the spread of coal dust to heavily populated tourist areas in Santa Marta.- The stockyard will be connected to the ocean by a tunnel and vessels will use an access channel away from beaches where tourists gather. To reduce the spread of coal dust, stockpiles will be constructed near hills that will block the wind from carrying dust to populated areas.
