Train transporting Prodeco coal derails on the Fenoco line

A train transporting 3,000 tonnes of coal from Prodeco's Calenturitas mine in Cesar department to the Port of Santa Marta derailed last week on the Fenoco rail line. The train was equipped with 97 rail cars. Coal spilled out of 52 of the cars. Fortunately no one was injured in the mishap. Prodeco moved quickly to enact emergency protocols, and promised to investigate the cause of the derailment. In a written statement, Prodeco said it "strives to lead the business in the region in a responsible and sustainable way and it would take all actions necessary to mitigate the effects caused by the accident."
