FMCP RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM SURVEY RESULTS

Before the Research Symposium in Atlanta on October 18, 2011, FMCP leadership and the AMCP board were asked to complete an on-line survey. The questionnaire sought comments on issues related to managed care pharmacy research. This executive summary describes the questions asked and common responses.HOW WILL COMPARATIVE-EFFECTIVENESS RESEARCH (CER) INFORM MEDICAL AND PHARAAACY BENEFIT COVERAGE DECISIONS?:Although few respondents believe that CER plays an active role today (because of a paucity of good data), most envision that it will be beneficial in a number of areas, as more studies that meet the intent of CER are completed. One participant summed up the voice of the majority, saying "CER will provide managed care decision-makers with yet another important tool to more effectively drive formulary positioning, coverage guidelines, and promotion of scientifically-based best practice." The term "informed formulary decision making" was oft repeated.
