Neuroreceptors are an attractive target for ~99mTc-radiopharmaceuticals because of their potential use in characterizing neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, epileptic seizures and drug addiction. The development of ~99mTc agents that are target-specific requires consideration of the size of the agent, its lipophilicity, selectivity and receptor binding affinity. Complexes possessing the ideal combination of these characteristics must also be able to cross the blood-brain-barrier (BBB).
