The Atlantic Basin thermal coal market isn't generating much excitement. "Many European utilities have already purchased all of the coal they will need for the summer season," a trading source told Coal Americas. "Cargoes to Germany have slowed down due to lower water levels in the Rhine River." (When the Rhine's water level drops, barges cannot be fully loaded, making coal transportation costs higher. German utilities usually scale back purchases until the water level rises).
