AES Gener solicits bids for 1.0 million tonnes of coal

In Chile, AES Gener is evaluating the bids it received in response to its solicitation for 1.0 million tonnes of coal. Delivery is required during the first half of 2009. The utility is expected to announce awards by the end of September. Last year during a similar bidding process, AES Gener purchased slightly more than 1.0 million tonnes of Colombia coal from Cerrejon and 200,000 tonnes from Glencore. This year AES Gener also has purchased relatively small quanti- ties of spot Colombian coal from Drum-mond and Carbones del Caribe.
