Massey Energy currently has the capacity to produce 12.0 million short tons per year of metallurgical coal at its mines in Central Appalachia. The level will soon be rising to 15.0 million short tons per year. "Massey has taken some moves to beef up its met coal production capacity," a source told Coal Americas. "The company was able to boost met coal production by 1.0 million tons this year by opening the new Bandmill plant. Massey is moving forward with the development of the Rowland property. When Rowland begins producing at full blast, output from that mine will be 2.0 million tons per year. From what I understand Massey plans to begin exporting coal from Rowland in 2011. Massey's met coal output capacity should reach 15.0 million short tons per year by 2012."
