Colombian met coal finds a market in the United States

Centromin has joined a growing number of Colombian coal producers that are exporting coal to the United States. With the opening of a new pit last week, the company is currently producing 40,000 tonnes/month of metallurgical coal at its open-cast San Luis mine in Colombia's Santander department. Additional expansions are planned, eventually Centromin hopes to produce 80,000 tonnes/month at the site. Presently, most of Centromin's export volume is being shipped to the U.S. The company has a contract to supply 300,000 tonnes of met coal to a U.S. buyer during the next 14 months.
