Heavy rain interrupts coal deliveries from Colombia's interior departments

The two primary ports that handle export coal from Colombia's flood ridden interior regions have depleted all of their coal stockpiles, sources tell Coal Americas. Officials at the Ports of Barranquilla and Cartagena reportedly advised shipping agents "that no coal is available to be loaded, and it is unclear when stockpiles will be rebuilt." The Caribbean ports are located near the mouth of the Magdalena River, a major transportation route for barged coal. The Magdalena River is experiencing its worst flooding in more than 50 years.
