摘要

East Asia is currently the only region that challenges the economic dominance of Western Europe and North America. Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong are economically developed. Despite mainland China's relatively late start, it is already the world's fourth largest economy in terms of GDP, the largest recipient of foreign direct investment, and the fastest growing economy. In fact, China and India are expected to become the world's second and third largest economies respectively in about two decades. No major business can ignore this region, especially mainland China, given its huge size and rapid growth. In this paper, I first review a few important issues and emerging trends in the globalization of this region, and then discuss their implications for international management research.
