Closed-Loop Supply Chains: New Developments to Improve the Sustainability of Business Practices

This book addresses the topic of closed-loop supply chains, one that is closely related to product end-of-life management as it is studied in the industrial ecology (IE) community. It covers business and operations aspects related to the different options of taking back products and treating them in various ways. The question of "why refurbishing and engagement in secondary markets is still not a wide practice" is raised and addressed from different business perspectives. The book provides an excellent review of the operations management research approach to this topic; it demonstrates the kind of research questions in which the operations and supply chain management community is interested, which are clearly very different from the questions the IE community have been concerned with so far.
