Image of the month. Intramural cecal hematoma: a rare complication after colonoscopy.

A 74-year-old man with no previous gastrointestinal pathology underwent his first screening colonoscopy, which was somewhat difficult for the colonoscopist because of a redundant tortuous colon. Besides moderate diverticulosis of the entire colon, no other pathology was found. Six hours postpro-cedure the patient returned with abdominal pain. On examination, he was afebrile and hemodynamically stable; his abdomen was diffusely tender with a palpable fullness in the right lower quadrant. Abnormal laboratory data included a decreased hemoglobin level of 4 g and mild leukocytosis.
