Massey Energy's coal revenues in the second quarter increased by 26 percent to 487.1 million dollars, compared to 386.7 million dollars in the same corresponding period last year. Net income increased by 194 percent to 37.0 million dollars, compared to 12.6 million dollars in 2004. "Our improved results reflect the continued strength of coal pricing in the worldwide market place, our steadily increasing production and the commitment of our nearly 5,500 members," Don L. Blankenship, Massey's Chairman and CEO said. "Massey remains strategically situated to respond to the increasing demands of its customers for conveniently located high quality low sulfur coal."
