U.S. and Canadian hard met coal negotiations in Europe appear to be moving forward at a leisurely pace, with no rush on either side to reach the finish line. However, a benchmark of dollar 114.00 to dollar 115,00/tonne FOB departure port for most brands of premium quality hard met coal seems to be emerging as this year's dominant figure. Alpha Natural Resources reportedly settled FY2006 business with Arcelor last month at dollar 115.00/tonne FOB. Since then reports have surfaced that suggest that Elk Valley Coal has settled in Germany and Italy at dollar 115.00/tonne FOB.
