The International Iron and Steel Institute said world steel production in February totaled 89.0 million tonnes,up 4.9 percent from the same period in 2005.China produced 29.5 million tonnes of steel in February,up 17.0 percent from the same month last year.Japan produced 8.9 million tonnes of crude steel,up 2.6 percent year on year.Total production in Asia tallied in at 46.7 million tonnes,up 12.1 percent from February 2005.
