Demand for anthracite coal expected to rise in Brazil

Currently Brazil imports about 1.55 million tonnes/ year of anthracite coal, but demand could double by 2010, sources tell Coal Americas. "Anthracite coal is used by steel mills in the sintering and PCI processes, and also by iron ore producers in pellet plants. As steel production capacity continues to grow in Brazil, demand for additional anthracite coal looks very promising," a source said. "CVRD, as the world's largest iron ore producer, is also likely to increase its anthracite consumption in the future."
