Influence of various insecticides (quinalphos, chlorpyriphos, methyl parathion, endosulfan, imidacloprid and deltamethrin) applied thrice at half of their recommended field concentrations, on the potted rice plants of the varieties, PR 116 (susceptible) and ARC 6248 (resistant) at 10-day interval, on feeding of whitebacked planthopper, Sogatella furcifera (Horvath) was studied. Methyl parathion (0.10%), deltamethrin(0.0025%), quinalphos (0.10%) and imidacloprid (0.0018%) resulted in enhancement of feeding (measured as honeydew excretion, 60.99 to 76.51 mg/5 hopper females against 54.21 mg/5 hopper females in control) while other insecticides, viz. chlorpyriphos (0.10%), endosulfan (0.10%) and imidacloprid (0.0035%) did not influence feeding by the hopper. S. furcifera excreted significantly higher amount of honeydew (84.57 mg/5 female hoppers) on PR 116 as compared to ARC 6248 (39.31 mg/5 hopper females).
