EVALUATION OF MAIZE INTERCROPPED WITH COWPEA FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF MAIZE STEM BORER, CHILO PARTELLUS (SWINHOE)

摘要

The different plant densities of fodder cowpea intercropped in maize were evaluated against Chilo partellus during kharif 20~ 3 and 2014. The deadhearts incidence of C. partellus in intercrop treatments i.e. maize intercropped with one or two rows ofcowpea was lower than that in sole maize and higher than that in deltamethrin treatment. Accordingly, the maize grain yield in intercrop treatments such as maize intercropped with one or two rows of cowpea was higher than that in sole maize and lower than that in deltamethrin treatment. However, the cowpea fodder yield obtained in intercrop treatments provided additional benefit.
