摘要

A new technology was proposed to fabricate piston rings and cylinder sleeves of combustion engines. The complex study involved numerical simulation, initial quality inspection, comparative tribotests and fundamental studies of real parts. A certain material composition was selected then the real friction pair was tested including a piston ring with TiN coating and a cylinder sleeve with the outer layer nitrated by the "Ni-trovac" technique. As a result, a new design of ring and sleeve was proposed. It was found that the free surface energy can serve as an important index in the proper selection of tribomaterials especially in the case of the reciprocating motion of friction components.
