Comparative tests of various carbon products as additives to the industrial oil И-40A during sliding friction of a steel roller on copper foil have revealed that fullerene blacks before and after extraction of the major share of fullerenes yield improvement of the antifriction and antiwear characteristics as compared with those of pure fullerene C{sub}60. Structural studies have demonstrated that the mechanism of action of fullerene blacks on friction differs from that of C{sub}60. Comparatively cheap fullerene blacks are highly promising industrial additives to lubricating oils.
