Limousin et al. (2008) have written a study on measurement and modelling of rainfall partitioning by Quercus ilex in a Mediterranean setting. This study quantifies throughfall and stemflow, parameterises and applies the sparse version of the Gash model (Gash et al., 1995) and tests the transferability of this model to another plot with a different canopy structure due to thinning. The authors conclude that the interception rates measured in their study are a little higher than those measured in other Mediterranean holm-oak woods, that the model lightly underestimates interception and that there is good transferability of the model’s parameters. They support the hypothesis of Gash et al. (1995) that parameters scale linearly with canopy cover.
