Thermal coal prices may decline, but global demand is going up

The Australian Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics (ABARE) released an interesting report about future global demand for thermal coal last week. ABARE is forecasting that thermal coal contract prices will decline to $82.00/tonne FOB by 2017, a 37 percent drop, due to strong growth in exports from Australia, Indonesia, Colombia and emerging countries such as Mongolia and Mozambique.
