There's a renewed push by coal industry and government leaders to finance and construct the Carare Railway, which would transport coal from Colombia's interior regions to ports on the Caribbean. The railway would span about 500 kilometers, originating in Cun-dinamarca and ending near the city of Barrancabermeja on the Magdalena River. From that point the coal would be barged to the Port of Barranquilla, where it could be exported.
